Notes The Phase of the Eclipse (蝕の相)
This work is a “West meets East” type piece: “Heterophony and Jo-ha-kyu (slow, moderate, fast)” vs. “Homophony and Ternary form.” There are three sections. The first and last sections are in heterophony and the middle in harmony. Tempo always changes in the Jo-ha-kyu style. Ordinarily, what interests me most in writing music is “structure” made of sounds and silences resulting in a “contour” composition. However, in this piece I have composed freely, based on my sense.
