Notes | But if You is a song for soprano, koto, and bass. The tuning of the koto is in a mode I found in some of Erik Satie’s Gnossienes. The song is in four sections that alternate between 7/4 and 5/4. The soprano does not enter until the last section. The koto solo ends with a seven note figure played once in quarter notes, then twice in eights, three times in triplets, and finally four times in sixteenths.
