Global Koto Music Network’s Online Masterclass Series No.4 features ‘TAKA -The Hawk-’, one of koto master Tadao Sawai’s most beloved duets.
Our instructor Kiyomi Ishigaki of the Sawai Koto Institute studied intensively with Tadao Sawai, beginning very early in her career. While Curtis Patterson who directed the Japanese Music Program at Yokohama International School for nearly fifteen years, acts as host. In addition to discussion of performance techniques and practice methods, this is a rare opportunity to gain valuable insights from Ms. Ishigaki as she shares remembrances and special tips she gained through her years of experience with Sawai-sensei.
Among the many duets composed by Tadao Sawai, ‘Taka’ is one of the most frequently performed works. This Online Masterclass is recommended for all who study the koto, whether you are currently focusing on the piece, have performed it before, or possibly have never heard it but hope to play it in the future.
Registering for this event also enables you to view our Online Masterclass Series No. 3, ‘Sanka -A Song of Praise-’, free of charge.
There will be a live Q&A for all at the end of the session. We look forward to wide participation by koto enthusiasts from around the world!
